Enjoy Your HD Media on Your Iphone and Computer with Libox

libox

Ran across a new app for both your computer and iPhone that will allow you to share and experience all high quality media for free! That means: no price tags and no limits on how much HD media users can share with friends and family. I love this, as many of my media sharing apps put limits on how much I can upload and how large my files can be. Freedom is great, especially when it's free! … [Read more...]

Review: ART TEXT v2.2.2 by Belight Software

Review: Art Text v2.2.2 by Belight Software

Editor's Note:  Wouldn't you know? Just as we released this article, a newer 2.3 version with a vector editor has been released. Dr. Roach will review it at a later date. Back in April, 2009 I last reviewed BeLight's ART TEXT and found it a useful headline and logo designing tool, but time passes and the new 2.2.2 version appeared as a review copy (from BeLightsoft. Com)on my desk with a new, revamped look and a greater ease of usage. … [Read more...]

Review: Pixelmator 1.6

Pixelmator 1

About a year and a half ago (January 7, 2009 to be exact) I wrote a review of Pixelmator as a potential light-weight image-editing software. At that time I found it a very useful and inexpensive image-editing software that was well worth its $59.00 cost. (Download from Pixelmator.com) A new version of Pixelmator (1.6) is available as a free upgrade to current Pixelmator owners, but a word of caution goes along with it. Pixelmator has been rewritten for Snow Leopard 10.6 and the new version … [Read more...]

A Quick Look at EPS Quicklook

quicklook-icon-bar

Right now, all I want is to be able to quickly scan my folder of EPS files to find what I need. I know it's in there. I just can't remember the filename. I have Leap. It's a great app- a musthave for anyone who works with images and graphics. (read Wendy's review called Getting Organized: Deep. Yep. and Leap. by Ironic) But right now, I  just want to scan some EPS files in this #$@%^& folder!  I know the thing I want is  in that folder. It is and  I don't want to launch another app … [Read more...]

One of my favorite software companies, Topaz Labs, has just released an upgrade to their DeNoise software, rasing version 3 to version 4. Restore from backup – bringing a Mac back with Time Capsule

306681_01

My brother called and told me my mom was in the hospital. At 80 her health has been declining pretty rapidly so I immediately booked a flight to California, planning to spend a week there to help my brother with both her and my father. Needless to say I had a lot on my mind as I rushed to the airport in the wee hours of a Tuesday morning last week. Back at home my wife's MacBook sat at her desk, left on overnight like she often did so that when she woke up in the morning a quick shake of the … [Read more...]

Why I got rid of my HP b9180

20070221_fg1

It's a lovely printer, the HP b9180 is.  When I finally understood the printer's need for control and set the color management to "Printer controls color", the blacks came out smooth and velvety, the print always true to what I saw on the screen.  Since that fateful discovery, I have yet to see a single horizontal track  streaking across large fields of color in a print. Image quality is superb. … [Read more...]
