For Flash Users: crossdomain.xml maker, finally!

It's so simple, so brilliant, why didn't anyone think of this before? A while back and few version ago, new preacutions were added to Flash player 7: a flash movie playing inside a browser would not be allowed to access data outside the exact domain in which .swf resides. By default, .swf files can't even read from subdomains, or even parent domains if the swf is located in a subdomain. With this new security measure,  Macromedia (now Adobe) added the use of the cross domain policy file, … [Read more...]

Review: Crossbrowsertesting.com

crossbrowtest

Since I have already sang their praises,  this is more of an introduction to Crossbrowsertesting.com than a review. Best described as a Browser Compatibility Lab, this online service offers a place to test a website on just about every browser- operating system combination. It offers two types of testing: interactive (to test ajax, javascript, and flash) and screenshots (which verifies layouts across all browsers). The site offers three (3) pricing plans which all include access to their … [Read more...]

WordPress Plugins for the Media Library

Upload Folders - File Structure

Getting The Most of  Wordpress' Media Library After a couple of years of faithfully using Dean's FCK Editor, we changed over to Tiny MCE Advanced Plugin- mostly because we wanted to take advantage of the new timthumb auto-thumbnailer coding of our new Arthemis Premium theme. (Though if I had read this post by Justin Tadlock, Boy Genius, I would have probably stuck with my Studiopress theme...) Tiny MCE Advanced Plugin This plugin adds 16 plugins to TinyMCE, WordPress’ wysiwyg … [Read more...]

Jan. 18, 2010: Ping Services

I was looking at a 112mg error log last week and i discovered that almost all of the errors were related to long gone ping services. I was googling to find the lastest working ping list. It can be most frustrating trying to hunt down a list of current ping services. As of today, these are working. http://api.moreover.com/RPC2 http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2 http://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php http://ping.feedburner.com http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php … [Read more...]

4companies-300px

The new year introduced me to new vendors and reinforced my belief in 2 old ones: crossbrowsertesting.com,  browsershots.org, polurnet.com, and arthemis premium wordpress theme. This is a story of great customer service. Arthemis Premium Wordpress Theme Some time last fall, i decided that i wanted to change the DigitalAppleJuice theme to Arthemis Premium wp theme by Colorlabs Project. I am still a huge fan of the Revolution- Studiopress themes- all my client themes are based on them … [Read more...]

Tablet Draw By MooSoftware.com

I just found a Shareware program that had me reaching for my credit card within fifteen minutes of first downloading it to try out. From mooSoftware.com is TABLETDRAW® a simple drawing program that uses the pressure sensitivity of the various Wacom tablets to allow you to draw freely. It's a sketching and drawing program with the look of pencil, pen, or felt marker. It runs on Intel-based or PowerPC Macs and requires Mac OS X version 10.4 or later. Sorry, PC users, this one is Mac only. What … [Read more...]

LiteIcon by FreeMacSoftware: Pimp My Folders!

Desktop

LiteIcon by FreeMacSoftaware.net, is an easy-to-use app to change the system folders. Did I mention its free? I wouldn't normally go for pimping my desktop but I happen to be reading DesignSponge's Blog and found a desktop wallpaper I couldn't live without. The problem is that my desktop folders blend into the background now and, even after changing the label colors on the folders, its still all a little too much. Trying to find anything in any app using the Open> window would just make … [Read more...]

Gus Mueller, the guiding light behind FlyingMeat.com and the newly released version 2.0 of Acorn calls his software "The image editor for humans" and it truly is a moderately priced image editor at US $49.95 with an upgrade from version 1.0 at US $19.95. Acorn is a Macintosh only (Snow Leopard OS X 10.6 and later) software this is truly an image editor that is easy to use and … [Read more...]

Random Musings on Apple’s Migration Assistant

Well, this sums up my recent experience with Apple’s Migration Assistant. I just received my new Snow Leopard, 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor Mac Pro. It came with 8 gig of RAM, and I immediately added four more 2 gig Kingston chips for a total of 16 gig. The memory was recognized after restarting, and there was a new message indicating all the memory was installed correctly. Sweet, Lightroom should love the extra speed and RAM. Upon setting the machine up, I decided to try … [Read more...]

6 Articles You Should Read Before Upgrading to Snow Leopard

Certainly not this one. I have nothing to add to the debate. I ordered mine from Amazon this summer but I am waiting for at least another 3 or 4 months before upgrading. I can't afford to have my workflow disrupted at this time. After reading Gizmodo's excellent Mac OS X Snow Leopard: The Complete Guide, Dr. Roach's Tale of Install, and David Allison's Tale of Upgrade you should have a good handle on what to expect. Me? I don't want any surprises, especially ones like my forced upgrade to CS3 … [Read more...]
