Favicons have always been the bane of my existence. 16×16 pixels is not a lot of real estate to define the essence of a website and i always forget which of my graphics programs will export a .ico file format (Lemke’s Graphic Converter).

It’s bad enough I can’t seem to control the color shift in images processed using "save for web" command, and, really, wouldn’t life just be a little easier if I didn’t have to leave Photoshop yet again to process a web-related thing?

Enter Toby Thain of Telegraphics.com.au. His site offers an easy-to-install plugin for Photoshop CS3 that saves as Windows ico favicon! Thank God!

I was having trouble making the favicon consistently show up. If your WP blog is having trouble finding your favicon, you might consider copying the favicon in the root folder . Edit the header.php, specifically the favicon code which looks like this:

link rel="Shortcut Icon" href="<?php echo get_settings(’home’); ?>/wp-content/themes/revolution_magazine-20/images/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"

to this:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" />

or

<link rel="icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" />

the relative link to the favicon sometimes doesn’t always work.
