I read this post today and ran the utility and learned that the hard drive on my iMac 24" NEW in Sept. 2009 is failing. Because of temperature. The best part? This is my second iMac in a year to do this. Heading to the Apple Store tomorrow to see what they are going to do. without your post I wouldn't have been able to plan this in my schedule and now that I know it is failing, I can take care of it before it would have been a major pain.
