This is part of my endless list of free stuff from the web. Believe it or not, most of the graphics offered on the sites listed below are free. HOWEVER they are all offered under different licensing agreements- some require a link back to the designer's website, some required copyright credits, others require nothing at all. Make sure you read the licensing agreements carefully. Don't abuse an artist's intellectual property rights and they will keep sharing their work with … [Read more...]
Photofunia.com
It never fails. Just as I get rolling on something I need to finish, someone emails me something which completely catches my attention and takes me away from whatever it was that I was doing. (what was I doing?) Distraction du jour: Photofunia.com. There are several online tools which allow you to have fun with images, Dumpr and Gooifier are two free sites that I've used in the past, but Photofunia, also free, offers a more sophisticated selection and I like their interface better. … [Read more...]
The Big Mean Folder Machine
It seems that I spend half my life trying to manage the myriad of files and folders I create as I work through versions and edits of websites, images, content. It is something I have learned to do always, everytime, even if I am facing a deadline. Neglecting to organize fiies means that even an hour later I may not be able to figure which was the version we liked the best or be able to reinstall the latst version of a website after a catastrophe. The Big Mean Folder Machine by publicspace.net … [Read more...]
Turn Your iPhone Into A Sketch Pad
I am rarely bored. I am an artist AND I have ADHD. Believe me, I live in a swirling vortex of ideas, and notes to remind me of other ideas and half finished projects I work on when I am not doing something else. And I don't like hype. I have visceral reaction to it and get uncontrollably annoyed when the sheep are led to slaughter by a well-managed media campaign. A good PR person can convince most people that HiIlary Swank is drop-dead gorgeous, or Pulp Fiction is the product of pure … [Read more...]

After a week with the iPhone, what’s great, what’s not
I've had my iPhone for a little over a week now and figure it's a good time to settle in and talk about what I like and dislike about it. I have not really changed my calling habits too much as a result of having the iPhone; the way I use the phone in general is about the same as I've done in the past. Where it has changed my daily activities is in the additional stuff I can use it for outside of being a simple phone. No longer do I get stressed out about having to waste time standing in line … [Read more...]

Camdapter by Jim Garavuso vs Nikon SLR Hand Strap
A former student of mine dropped by to show me his new Nikon D80 camera. He stopped in because he knew my wife had the same model and he wanted some help with a couple of menu choices. I noticed a handstrap on the right side of his camera, into which he slipped his right hand, which left his other hand free to support its long lens. This is a feature he uses frequently shooting sports and wildlife. Having just come back into the world of pro-weight cameras, and being older than I once … [Read more...]

Reconsider Buying That Dell.
Dell Inspiron Laptop. It's cheap. It's pretty. It's probably a lemon. After 57 days of trying to resolve all the hardware issues, my nephew is the proud owner of a $2000 doorstop. UPDATE: Dec 26th: The refurbished computer DELL's Consumer Advocate is offering? It comes … [Read more...]
