Jim8Ball is such a prolific author we couldn’t decide which of his work we liked best. Don’t miss the slideshow after the  questionaire- it has a story preview for his "Samurai Cat" series and covers to many of his other books.

::: Q ::: Tell us about yourself.

Jim8ball aka Jim Coon was raised in the dark mines of evil dwarves living in Poland. He was fed only oatmeal and licorice. On Thursdays he was given the task of entertaining the dwarves by reenacting scenes from Fred Astaire movies. Do you know how hard it is to dance like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers at the same time? At the age of 15 he was able to escape the mines and book passage on a small freighter headed for "parts unknown". Those parts turned out to be an island full of dinosaurs and a large gorilla. After a short stint on the island (the natives loved the Fred Astaire routine ) Jim found himself on the docks of the greatest city in the world! New York City. It was in New York that Jim discovered he really didn’t like people so he moved to Cortland NY where he now resides. Okay, that’s not how things really happened, but it’s way more interesting than the truth. Read more

Drawing on my Computer…

digitalapplejuice | Drawing on my Computer...

One of the most amusing things I feel about my job is the lack of knowledge most people have of it.  I often have people ask what I do for a living. If they know I office out of my home then I their fist vision of me is sitting around in my PJs watching opera with a diet coke in one hand and letting my nails dry on the other.  I may or may not have a computer sitting next to me, but most likely not or else it would be in the way of those feet I am propping up.

 Madbadcat’s Note: The first time I saw Jaye Frisina’s work, I laughed out loud. How is it possible for that whimsical ninja to be endearing and threatening at the same time? The answer to that question is probably the essence of Ms. Frisina’s talent.

Madbadcat’s Note: The retro style and story of Todd Gnacinski’s book grabbed me from the first moment I saw the cover on Etsy and it turns out we share a love of all things Dave McKean.

LAYERS: The Complete Guide To Photoshop’s Most Powerful Feature

digitalapplejuice | LAYERS: The Complete Guide To Photoshops Most Powerful Feature When I pick up a book to read it I have an almost overwhelming desire to know something about the person writing the book before I even flip the pages of that book.  I want a connection between that person and myself in order to justify committing myself to their momentary care. I look first at book forwards or introductions or at least the author’s brief inside the front cover.  This is true whether the book is a work of fiction or a technical manual.  Without this beginning I have a hard time relating myself to the author; I have this need to know something about them.

Some almost 50 years ago when I was a beginning college student I always avoided classes taught by "staff" or "to be announced" if there was an option, and when there was a name listed for a course I got out my college catalogue and looked up the faculty member teaching the course and tried to find out as much about them as possible before I committed myself and my hard-earned tuition money to their care.
